At the end of July, Barrett and I went to New York with 4 couples (including us). We split the boys us and my parents kept Champs in Bishopville and Barrett's parents kept Jack at our house in Columbia. So very thankful for wonderful grandparents who allow us to get away every so often and recharge!
These were college friends of ours - 3 other guys in Barrett's pledge class and we're of course great friends with all of their wives. It was A BLAST!!! Barrett and I left Thursday morning and had one night to ourselves before all our friends got there Friday. We stayed downtown at the Waldorf. Thursday night we had dinner at Locanda Verde and it was fabulous! It might have been my favorite meal of the whole weekend. We had such a great time that night. After dinner we went to a wine bar and then to a club that was pretty interesting!
Saturday morning we headed to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Though it was very sad and a bit disturbing to see the many, many lives that were lost as a result of that day, it was very moving and interesting to learn about so many aspects of the survivors, those we lost and so many stories and perspectives from that day. It's a large museum and we went through fairly quickly and it took probably 2 hours. It's definitely worth doing though. I enjoyed it in that I feel like it opened my eyes more to just what it was like in New York City (and our country) that day, that year and the many years that followed. We Will Never Forget!
After the museum we went to the area where our lunch spot was and waited on friends to arrive.
We finally had the whole crew there and had a great lunch at ABC Kitchen. I wish I would have taken a picture as the restaurant was really pretty! Food was great too! We spent the afternoon shopping around and looking around. It was just so great to be in the city and in the midst of all the hustle and bustle!
Friday night we met up with some of Elizabeth's friends at The Standard Hotel and went to their bar on the top floor called The Boom Boom Room. So fun and so chic. The views were amazing too!
Being in NY meant really late reservations. Friday night we went to the Meat Packing district and had dinner at Buddakan at 10:15. That was a little TOO late but man the food was amazing. It's my favorite kind of thing - Asian fusion. We did a tasting menu for the table so we got about 12 items or so and they brought each one with portions for all 8 of us. It was fabulous!!
Only pic of the dinner there....
Saturday we all had brunch together at Balthazar, a big French restaurant. It was so fun starting the day with mimosas and we pretty much kept the fun going all day! After brunch the guys went to a little bit of a Yankees game and the girls stayed in SoHo and shopped all day and then parked at a fun spot for Rose in the afternoon!
Saturday night we had dinner at a yummy Italian restaurant, Marea, and as you can see from the pics, the wine was a flowing! Great cap to a fantastic weekend with these people!!!
Sunday morning - bright and early - ready to get home to my babies!!!!
So happy to see my boys!! And they loved their surprises!
