Weekend in Charleston

Barrett and I headed to Charleston for a much needed little getaway at the end of April!  It's funny when you welcome your first baby into the house, we as parents get to dote on them together and share the responsibilities.  When parents welcome a SECOND baby into the family, it turns to much more of a man-on-man role and trying to keep both children happy/needs met is a full time job for both parents, all the time!  So needless to say, we were ready for a little time away, with some sleep!

We stayed at the Doubletree downtown on Market Street which was nice and convenient to everything.  I loved that we parked our car when we arrived and didn't get it until we left on Sunday!  On Friday night we met friends Matt & Katie Bullwinkel and had a drink at Cocktail Club before going to Hall's Chophouse on Upper King for dinner.  Our dinner at Hall's was amazing - best steak I think I've ever had! We had so much fun seeing the Bullwinkel's - always have the best time with them!

Saturday morning we walked to King and walked through the Farmers Market, got a little snack and then headed to Leon's Oyster Shop for early lunch! We actually had one of the bicycle guys take us there - poor guy had to be sore after that ride- was a little longer than we thought! This place is awesome!  I had heard so much about it for a while but didn't really know what to expect.  It was the perfect combo of casual and cool, with really good food.  We had fried oysters, hushpuppies and black eyed pea salad.

Saturday afternoon we walked around downtown, shopped a little and visited some old spots like the house I nannied in the summer I lived down there ('02!), the Battery, and new spots like the law firm where my brother is an attorney.

Saturday night we went to a beautiful new hotel bar, The Watch, at the Rooftop of a new boutique hotel - The Restoration. Beautiful views, cool decor and great drinks!  Had to take some cheesy, solo, honeymoon-style pics :-)

Sunday we had brunch, with one mimosa, at The MacIntosh before heading back home, very eager to see our babies!!

Charleston is the BEST!  I don't know if I could handle all the great restaurants, shopping and just general awesomeness at my fingertips all the time - but it sure is great to be able to spend weekends there every so often!!
